Payment Options

We want to make sure you get what you want as painlessly as possible. As long as you place your order when a special discount or premium is offered you will be guaranteed to receive the discount or premium. Full payment is not expected at the time of the order. The standard payment procedure for prints and collections is half the total amount paid with the order and the final half paid at pick up. We also offer layaway for any order over $100. Pay 25 % at the time of the order then pay as you are able until your order is paid in full. As soon as you pay half of the balance your print order will be prepped and sent to our lab. Your order will be ready for pick up when final payment is received.

How long will it take to process my print order?

Posted by & filed under faqs.

It takes about two weeks in house to prep and retouch your image files. During our busy season it can take up to three weeks in our photo lab to print and package your order. We estimate a two to five week turnaround time. Many times your portrait package will be completed earlier than the estimated time. We always call you at the number provided as soon as your order is ready. We are committed to provide the highest quality product possible, and will never rush to sacrifice quality.

Image tinting, cropping, and special effects

You can have your prints your way.  We offer image tinting, cropping, and other special effects at no additional cost.  Black and white, sepia, and a host of other color tints, edge borders, and vignettes are available upon request.  Any image can be cropped to eliminate background or change composition for free.  These options are available for you to sample when viewing your preview images after your session and during any in studio order.

Retouching

Unlike many professional photographers we include most retouching in your print price.  Our approach is to provide you with the highest quality image printed on the best quality materials.  Standard retouching is a service we feel is essential to clean up the image.   Every image needs at least a little help.   We will always eliminate blemishes; retouch fly away hairs, and color and density correct the final print.  We will also fix minor clothing issues, remove or soften facial lines and dark circles, and convert to black and white for no additional charge upon request.  There are a few retouching requests that have a fee.  We charge a flat fee of $35 for any retouching we deem beyond standard retouching.    This includes changing the background and retouching out braces.  If a retouching request exceeds our standard retouching service we will tell you at the time of the order and proceed only with your permission.

Ordering

As of now we do not offer direct online ordering.  If we offered online ordering we would have to use an intermediate service or pay a royalty for each transaction.  Also, our research shows a tendency to misinterpret package pricing especially when attempting to modify an existing package.  Many customers would end up paying more than they need to get the exact package and print options they want if ordering online.   We can be creative and provide more options.  You can easily call in your order or make an appointment to come into the studio.  We can mix and match the package options to create a custom collection to meet your expectations and, usually, save you money.  Our intent is to provide you what you want at the best possible price.  We are working on a way to enhance the online ordering experience.  Watch for changes in the near future.

If you are new to shopping for high school senior portraiture you may also experience sticker shock. Sitting and print packages are higher, sometimes much higher, than what you paid for underclass portrait prints. There are a couple reasons:

  • Most underclass portrait packages are mass produced, not retouched or lightly retouched, and are quickly and inexpensively printed with little or no quality control. Packaging and print protection is minimal. Senior portrait sessions are usually more elaborate and offer more options and many more pose choices. Retouching is much more involved and the print quality is higher. The images are usually printed on more expensive paper and will usually last much longer.
  • Photographers who are the official senior portrait photographer for a high school do not receive any compensation from the school, and are expected to cover all or most of the school events. Most official photographers provide their services to the school for free. This helps keep the yearbook cost affordable and also provides professional quality images of the school events to the yearbook staff and makes a better looking yearbook.

What are your Studio Hours?

Why is the official photographer for the yearbook different than the photographer who took my daughter’s underclass pictures, and why are the prices so different?

Usually the portrait services that provide elementary, middle school, and underclass portrait packages are very large, sometimes national, companies that treat the portrait process as a commodity. The purpose of the underclass school photograph is to create a photographic record of the child at a specific age. The service is structured to produce a low cost product. A highly skilled photographer is not needed since any individual can push the button to take the photograph since the lighting is locked down and there are no creative options open to the photographer. There are little or no pose options and very little retouching, if any. The prints that are sold to the parents are low cost, first run prints with minimal color correction, produced with low cost materials, and provided to the parents with plastic bag packaging. The service provides a piece of paper with a picture on it and sells it as such.

Most photographers who specialize in high school senior portraits are small business people who think of themselves as artists. They are usually specially trained and educated in the art and business of photography. They take pride in the images they create and enjoy the creative process of crafting high-end portraiture. It is not unusual for a senior photographer to spend hours with a student to create a collection of special and unique images that capture and express that individual’s personality. These specialized photographers craft the finished prints using top quality digital equipment and image processing software. They are serious about print quality and use only the best labs and materials. It shows in their work and is reflected in the price.

Most yearbook staffs prefer working with a specialized studio as their official photographer. A specialized studio provides a higher level of service and much more individual involvement when providing coverage for the yearbook. They also want the senior section to be special. They prefer to have the senior gallery have a look a cut above the underclass sections.
