I took one of your prints to a local camera store and they refused to make copies for me. Why?

Posted by & filed under faqs.

Professional photographic work is copyrighted. It is illegal to reproduce or publish work without written permission from the copyright owner. Even though you own the print you do not own the reproduction rights. The reasoning is the same as explained in the above answer concerning purchasing image files. If you have a legitimate reason to copy the image, talk to us.

Can I purchase the image files?

This question is one photographers have agonized about since the first time a man with a camera accepted money to take a picture. In the old days, before digital, when all images were captured on film, photographers almost never sold the negative that created the print. If the photographer did sell the negative the price was very high because once the film negative changed hands the photographer lost all control of print quality and lost any and all print sales from that image. For all intents, the negative was worth much, much more than any print the negative could create because an unlimited amount of prints can be created from the same negative.
The digital file is exactly like a film negative.
A bigger concern for the photographer is the loss of quality control. Photographers have a trained eye and are very concerned about how their images appear in print. We photographers agonize over how black the blacks are in a print, and how the skin tones reproduce. If the print is as little as 10% too dark or light, or too red or blue we destroy the print and start over. We may see the image in a finer light than most people, but the final print is our product and represents our work. If we photographers care how the image is crafted we have to control how it is printed. The biggest fear we have is that a client will print out the image file on a poorly maintained home printer connected to a computer with a monitor that has never been color balanced, and the resulting print is one that does not do justice to the quality of our work. Everyone who sees that print will assume it came with the photographer’s seal of approval. If our work is represented as inferior it won’t be long before we see a loss of business.

With that said we know times have changed and today’s clients want to use the images digitally. Most want to use the images for social networking. Starting this year we now include web prepped digital files for use on social networking sites included with all portrait packages Value and above. We will send to your email address web prepped versions of all images in your portrait print package within a few days after you pick up your order. This is a true savings exceeding $100!

Why do some people have more preview images on the website than I do?

Posted by & filed under faqs.

The quantity of preview images posted to our website correlate to a sitting option. More elaborate sittings with more pose and clothing change choices allow more proof images posted to our site. This year we increased the quantity of proof images posted to our site for each sitting option. Listed below are the new updated proof quantities.

  • Standard – 10 posted preview images
  • Special – 15 posted preview images
  • Ultimate – 20 posted preview images
  • Elite – 30 posted preview images

For the few students who only select to be photographed to satisfy the yearbook requirement we will upload two images to our website to help in ordering. Prints, enlargements, and collections are still available from this minimal sitting option. Of these two images, one will be the yearbook selection. (This option is for contracted schools only)

Can I bring my dog to my sitting?

Posted by & filed under faqs.

Sure, you can bring your dog, your cat, and your fish. You can even bring your little brother. We love pets and are pet owners ourselves. We charge a small fee of $15 to add any additional subject to a session.

Can anybody view my preview images?

Posted by & filed under faqs.

Yes, your preview images are visible to anyone who registers on our site.  Website viewing is free and included with your sitting. Our web security system allows us to monitor and police visits to our site.  Allowing limited restricted viewing permits friends and family easier access to view your images and streamlines navigation around our site.  If you prefer private viewing for your images we can email you a digital proof sheet for a small fee of $35.

Do I need an appointment to pick up my portrait prints?

Posted by & filed under faqs.

No, you do not need an appointment to pick up.  We do suggest an appointment to order your prints since we need an available computer and sales representative to help you place your order.  It may be helpful to call ahead if you have not received a call from our studio notifying you your prints are ready for pick up.  The due date for completion listed on your order copy is only an estimate.  We do expect you to pick up the finished prints and collections within sixty days of your notification of completion. Unless other arrangements are made we have the option to recycle the package materials after sixty days.   We reserve the right to charge a reprint and package fee of $30 for orders left over sixty days past notification.
